COSCUP 2016: Call for Presentation
Toward the Future: To inherit, lay the foundation, and break the boundaries

COSCUP is the largest annual FLOSS conference organized by local communities in Taiwan (See the “About” section.) Besides the usual COSCUP talks, panels, unconference, workshops, and lightning talks, we’ve added a few new tracks in this year’s event, as shown below.

Important Info

“Toward the Future: To inherit, lay the foundation, and break the boundaries”

To Inherit

Apprenticeship has been around for ages, and there’s no exception in open source communities. In this year’s COSCUP, we would like to invite mentors and mentees to pair up and share their experiences. We believe those who learn from mentors should be confident in themselves, while mentors should grasp the opportunity to assist them in presenting their work. Topics are NOT limited in this track as long as it is related to open source. Submissions from mentors pairing up with mentees are especially welcomed. Recommendations would also be appreciated.

Lay the Foundations

Just finished a prototype, and eager to ask for advice from experts? Had an idea, but need people to help you bring it to life? This track may be one of the best opportunity to present something brand new. The sessions in this track are slightly longer than lightning talks, so that you can demonstrate your ideas / prototypes to a larger audience thoroughly — with a better chance to meet someone who love your work! Topics are NOT limited in this track as long as it is related to open source. We would also invite attendees interested in your proposal to your session.

Break the Boundaries

We solve problems in various ways. Sometimes we choose one among many, other times we pick more than one at a time. While some of us are fond of React.js, others may prefer Angular.js. But when it comes to data, we use both R and Python for parsing and analysis. Furthermore, we all know that supporters of Emacs and vi/vim are always debating against one another, but as far as we’re concerned, they see the good in the other tools as well. In fact, many technologies and tools share similar concepts, and by exchanging opinions, we get to understand more about the world, thus improving our skills and knowledge. This is one of the reasons why we hold COSCUP. Topics are NOT limited in this track as long as it offers insights across different aspects, as we say, “break the boundaries”. We welcome all kinds of experience sharing.

Apache Software Foundation Special Track

Apache Software Foundation (ASF) has been an unsung hero for many open source projects. This year, we are calling for proposals related to ASF projects, communities, organization management, and so on. If your proposal has something to do with ASF, please don’t forget to mention it within your submission.

COSCUP Workshop

Want to hold a workshop? While the talks are going on, we’d provide room for teaching, co-working, or preparing for your presentation. If you would like to reserve for a workshop session, please note in your submission and make sure we know how to contact you.

And also:

In addition to the formats mentioned above, we’re also looking for proposals concerning the following topics:

  • Open Source Development Experiences
    • New OSS projects introduction
    • Experience sharing to the newbies
    • How to make your projects more popular
    • How to cooperate with developers worldwide
  • Open Source Culture & related topics

    • Open source-related legal issues
    • Open source software howtos, tips or hacking

COSCUP 2016: Call for Presentation

Toward the Future: To inherit, lay the foundation,
and break the boundaries

(Also in English)

Apache Software Foundation Special Track

COSCUP Workshop

  • Open Source Developing Experiences
    • New OSS projects introduction
    • Experience sharing to the newbies
    • How to make your projects more popular
    • How to cooperate to the developers worldwide
  • Open Source Culture & related topics
    • Open source community experience
    • Open source related legal issues
    • Open source software howtos, tips or hacking
    • UX & visual design for open source software
  • Open Source Governance & Open Data
    • Platforms for Open Source Governance
    • Open source technologies for government
    • Culture and experience sharing for the open government
    • Websites & apps with open data
    • Open data related topics
  • Any other free software / open source related issues
    • Any free software / open source topic, not listed above, is also welcome!
